Some yards just need a clear path - literally. This backyard in Fishers had usable space near the house, but no real way to get there without walking through the grass or stepping around mulch beds. A flagstone path solves that problem in a way that actually looks good doing it.

We laid the flagstones directly into fresh black mulch, letting the natural variation in each stone do the work. No two pieces are the same shape, which is exactly the point. That irregular fit gives the path character you just can not get from pavers or poured concrete.

The dark mulch is doing a lot here too. It sets off the stone cleanly, keeps the bed looking sharp, and does its job under the surface - holding moisture, blocking weeds, and protecting the roots of that tree nearby. It is one of those combinations where the practical and the visual line up perfectly.

Natural stone holds up. It does not crack under freeze-thaw cycles the way some materials do, and it only gets better looking as it weathers in. For a yard in Indiana where seasons actually mean something, that matters.

This is the kind of work we genuinely enjoy - functional, grounded, and built to last. A good path changes how you use your yard, and the right materials make sure it keeps looking great year after year.
