Sometimes a yard just needs a clean, finished edge to pull everything together. That's exactly what this Fishers home was missing - the beds had good bones, nice shrubs, a solid ornamental tree, but nothing to really define where the lawn ended and the landscape began.
We went with weathered sandstone boulders as the border and filled the beds with river rock. The sandstone gives it that natural, earthy look without feeling overdone. And the river rock fill keeps things tidy without the constant upkeep that comes with mulch - no breaking down, no washing away, no reapplying every season.
What we like about a setup like this is how little work it asks of the homeowner going forward. Mulch beds need refreshing. Bare dirt beds invite weeds. A well-installed rock bed with proper edging just sits there and looks good. That's the whole point.
The shrubs and ornamental tree already gave this front yard a solid structure. Adding the rock installation and sandstone edging just let that structure actually show up from the street. It went from blending into the neighborhood to standing out - in a clean, understated way.
This kind of work falls right in our wheelhouse. Landscape design and rock installation, done right, doesn't have to be complicated. It just has to be intentional. If your beds are looking a little rough around the edges, this type of upgrade is worth a serious look.
